Have any of you guys experienced shipping anything like axles? How much does it cost? What are the logistics - pack & ship etc,,,

Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have :-)

Jody, check with Fastenal. They ship between their stores using their trucks. Sender drops it off at the closest store, recipient picks it up at the closest store. I have been very pleased with their service and their prices.

I am getting ready to ship an axle and will make a long pallet for it and will strap the axle to the pallet using ratchet straps. The Fastenal by me will unload it from my truck with their forklift.

You can get a quote from their website.

My experience with Greyhound is it has to be hand moveable. It goes in the compartments below the seating where the baggage is loaded. I'm not aware of a Greyhound depot with a forklift although there may be some. I shipped a large painting with them 48x40 but it was easily moved by hand. Probably the best way to find out is to call them.
