Once the weather warms up abit here in New England I'll be starting to weld some sheet metal on to my rusty old girl. What I'm looking for, and haven't found in the gallery, are some good fairly close up pics of the lower door opening areas. I found a couple that were a little helpful but would like to come up with more if possible. So I was hoping one of my fellow 38 owners might have what I'm looking for and could post or better yet email them to me.
The rocker panel area is the main thing I need as both sides are in very bad shape. I want to replace with metal instead of the available fiber glass repo's.

OK first off, Wayne your pics were the ones I was referring to. The ones of the lower cowl were helpful, mine are a bit worse off but need pretty much the same treatment.

Ray looks to be a very talented guy but as I'm on a pretty tight budget I'll be attempting to make most stuff myself.

Hoff, good to hear from you. (finally noticed you'd PM'd back) What ever pics you could send would be muchly appreciated. I'll PM my email as that would no doubt be the easiest.

Hello Wayne and Dave- I'm brand new to Stovebolt. Please excuse me if I'm using this useful forum incorrectly....I'll learn as time goes on. I also have a '38 half-ton that I'm doing a ground up restoration. The farther and farther I disassemble the truck the more questions I'm having. I can figure out most problems. I'm amazed at what previous owners of my old truck did to it. Strange bits welded on where they don't belong... Odd body parts that I don't know if they belong or don't.. Body parts so terribly rusted that I don't know their original shape....and a frame so terribly rusted that I sometimes suspect my old truck was stored for a few years on the bottom of a pond. But I love this old truck and am prepared to spend my weekends for the next few years grafting/welding in new steel, drilling and tapping, grinding and media-blasting, etc.
And now my questions please:
1.) Does anyone know if there is any resource site that will show how the body parts look? I can weld on new metal to match the same as the old rusted off edges and screw/bolt hole areas if I knew what the parts actually are supposed to look like. I've checked the GM heritage site, Jim Carter, Fisher body archives, etc. with little success. Someone must have this info because I see such lovingly restored 38 trucks.
2.) A source of a replacement frame for my '38? ... When I took everything off to the bare chassis I saw the full extent of the terrible rust and old bent metal. I could have welded/grafted in new steel but an old huge tree changed everything. The heavy winter rain and wind dropped a heavy heavy tree right on top of my frame that was stored in the back of my yard, under a tarp, on 4 jack stands with each wheel 1' off the ground. Now 3 of the wheel are touching the ground even while on their 1' jack stands. The terribly rusted frame is now a even worse contorted pretzel...

Take a minute and introduce yourself in the Welcome center. Then you can ask questions in the various forums where you will get better answers than hijacking a thread someone else started.

Look this site over and check the manuals pertaining to '38 trucks. There is a lot of info on our '38 Chevy trucks.

Hey Rusted, The shop manual that is on the site Wayne referenced is a good source for some stuff but for the particular items you're asking about not so much. I lucked out and have found a new fellow 38 owner that lives about an hour from me that was willing to take some pics of one of the areas I'll be working on first in the restoration of my cab. (mine is very rusty as well) Probably your best bet would be to do the same thing I did. When you come up against some thing you're not sure of ask a specific question or for a pic of the area you're working on.
