My truck and I are 67 years old and we have retired from farming this year. I hope to get her road worthy and take her to town down route 66. I need to know who sells the best patch panels, glass, rubber molding, wiring and interior parts. This is the truck I learned to drive in and the only one my family has kept through the years. As a one owner family truck it has only 44,000 miles on it. I want to keep it as stock as possible, but also hope to get better than 6 mpg. I have a 456 rear end to replace the 513. Any helpful ideas?

Welcome,
Check out the Tons Of Fun section for some ideas and info specific to the 1 the one tons (and 3/4 ton).

4.10 gears are what you want for the kind of road trip you have planed, although I drove my 52 with 4.56 gears on a long trip including rt 66 not bad, a little slow.

Forman, welcome from a fellow Okie. Patch panels are all pretty much the same. You will end up massaging them for the right look. Rubber from Steele Rubber can't be beat. Glass is all flat glass except if you have a 5 window. Most any glass shop can cut them for you if you have patterns. LMC, Jim Carter, Classic Parts and a host of others will have most of what you need. Lots of sentimental value in that truck. Get her looking presentable and come on over to El Reno's Smalltown Weekend the first full Friday-Sunday in June.

Being retired and working on your own projects requires one principal of discipline. The ability to say NO....or your time will be limited to work on projects. As you can well guess I'm speaking from experience but I am getting better at NO NO NO

Enjoy it while you can. We can only do it once. LOL

...and now that your retired you can post some pictures. smile

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Wow, what a great history for your truck. The one piece of advice I would have is to be very careful with the brake drums. You can only buy them used and they are a very rare find. I love my 1 Ton as it is a lot of fun to drive.

Nice story and you should be able to buy the parts to
keep your truck stock. Jeffrey
