on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! The motors I see from vendors all say "for conversion from original vacuum motor." Did they put a factory elec. in any of the '59 1/2 tons or were they all vacuum? If so, I've got a conversion that's failed. The pic I see on the American Classic site has both link arms mounting on the same side of the motor while mine has one on top and the other on the bottom.
I'm obviously concerned about fitment. Anyone been through this or have knowledge on what will/won't work?

I know the 56 is different from the 58/59, so like many other differences, the 55.2-57 were likely one way and the 58-59 another. The 56, what I have, has a little mechanical cable that runs from the knob to the switch on the motor assembly and the later ones have a remote electrical switch, IIRC. Both systems show up from time to time on eBay. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | 55.2-57 wiper motor looks like this and has a mechanical switch connection as Tom sez .... the 58-59 motor looks like this and has an electrical switch like this, and unique drive arms the 2 motors are not interchangeable because the link arms are quite different, the early one uses the same arms as a vacuum style - if you have an original 59 electric setup you need to find an original motor or the vacuum arms to mate with a repro motor Bill | | | | | Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 319 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 319 | Thank you, Bill. The pictures were very helpful and show I have an original 59 elec. setup. Now to see if I can find a '59 motor or switch out to replacement motor and arms.

I, too have a 59 pickup, and I've found that all the v-8 and heavy trucks have the electric wiper set-up. Stick with 58 or 59 to ensure correct parts. Often a heavy truck can be found in a salvage and they are good parts sources for wiper motors.
