To follow up on Mr. Sweet's comments, I have to agree, that yes we all hop into other trucks for the mere pleasure of seeing how a fellow enthusiast restored his/hers ride!! Even for those whom projects are far from completed can get an example of what it is like. Even the youngest enthusiast can try to find some gears! Then there is always the speed demon who tries to break the land speed record for a totally stock, let's say 53, 1- ton!! Pic to follow as soon as I get to my P.C. http://s854.photobucket.com/user/53Green1ton/media/image1%203_zps3uuuevy9.png.html?sort=3&o=0
Still laughing at Joe's text of the event as it was happining drive
Can't wait!!!!

Jim -- Please define "Totally Stock" ... smile As for speed records, not to brag or anything but I believe I am the current record holder for Highest sustained highway speed in an AD 1-ton (3804 class). If you want to go for a new record, Charlie and I will be happy to fly chase for ya. Record currently stands at 75 MPH. 80 MPH is out there in the thin air, just waiting for you... Some people say it's a farm you can buy on the road ... it's all yours for the taking ... Charlie and I will be content to be just a photo memory on Pancho's wall while you get your steak with all the trimmins' ...

smile

Nobody let's me drive their trucks! Should I be offended? I can promise a bigger bonfire at homecoming then at Carlisle if that makes a difference. We can burn the 1 tons.

Mr Hambone,
The keys are always in the ignition. I never took you to be shy!

Oh and Mr. Milliman,
Photographic proof and two eye witnesses, 77mph!!!
Ok I have to be honest, 53, 3804 - 216 Babbitt engine, sm420 and 4:10's in the rear thanks to everyone at Homecoming two years past in assisting in the transplant, and Leo of course for delivering that holy grail to me!

Best part is, I think the first approach to 75 was without floors or a hood he was that excited!! His grin is still priceless.

All I know is two years ago Leo and I met up with the Fredericksburg caravan.
In 55 mph speed zones, I hit 70 plus at times just to keep up.
All the stop signs and a steep hill didn't help much.
But, the 7.3 with about a 7000 pound load, did keep up.
Blew some black smoke a few times.
We have yet to see what the 7.3 will be hauling east in a couple months.

Now Don

The Presidential Motorcade is not an entity to mess with. Thought it appears like a peaceful drive, it is a product of months of preparation. Each vehicle has a specific purpose and must be in TOP mechanical shape.

Our great President also loves to keep us on our toes ordering sprint drills and Fulton Ring extraction prep. That's a challenge at 80!

Don, shall I place you in the list for the next extraction drill?

Jim,

I must politely stifle a giggle as I contemplate your ridiculous and nearly comedic claims, Sir. There is no way on this green Earth (or any other planet subject to these same laws of physics) you got 77 MPH out of that 216, even *with* 4.10's and 17-inch wheels.... unless you dropped it out of an airplane... or it was on your trailer.

Who were your "eye witnesses" ? Probably Joe and his little canine compadre -- willing to sell their equally little mercenary souls for a bone and a Rolling Rock (although who gets which is never completely certain ...) ... Are they certified by the International Stovebolt Guild of Record Judges and Verifiers? (oh by the way, Sweet is Executive Prime Regent of said body)
Where's your photographic proof?? Were the cameras calibrated to International verified standards, as set by the ISGRJAV at the International Symposium in Bern in 2014??

And if you say Joe's camera, we will permanently withhold sanctioning of future speed record attempts as we all know how much THAT camera lies!!

We are a high-standards group here. Please respect our standards and attempt to live up to them, Sir!

Freyja is looking up Bucks County in her weapons targeting system now ...

I would be happy to be on the next extraction list.
Let me have a torch, a striker and full bottles of gas.
I think I can show Mike B something on how to extract things, the easy way.

By the way, that may be a good learning topic, for those who have not been around a gas axe much.
Jerry (HRL), I bet knows his way around one as much as anyone.
What do you say Jerry, I'll bring my gas axe just to learn from you.

My truck will not reach triple digits as Sweet has once claimed his will do. But it has exceeded 85 mph on level terrain. I do not intend to engage in speed trials in a foreign country. At least that is my intent. Looking forward to joining y'all this spring.

Official Business Memo from the small desk outside the President's Office

There are two matters which I wish to discuss, first are high speed runs, the other, Fulton Ring extraction drills.

High Speed Runs

For those who have not had the pleasure of visiting Stovebolt Headquarters, it is nestled within the rolling countryside of a Mennonite community. The ability to perform high speed runs is limited only to designated areas only. For the safety of all, I ask you please adhere to these requests. The area for this purpose, otherwise now and forever known as the Sir Charles Expressway will be made available upon certification that the truck in question has passed and certified itself Speed Ready by the Sargeant-at-Arms and/or the President along with other members of the 70 mph club.

At which time approval is granted, testing will be supervised and witnessed. A gradual approach will be made to ensure mechanical ability of the truck, along with the owner's ability to keep from soiling their shorts. Smiles and big grins encouraged.

Fulton Ring Extraction Drills

By order of the President, Emergency Preparedness Drill 758.42 has been scheduled for possible execution. For those not familiar, this drill is an extreme measure to remove the President from immediate danger. Please see here : Fulton Ring

In order to safely conduct this exercise, the release point, The Stovebolt Pond must be re-certified. By order of the President, Don King has been officially notified to bring his wetsuit and conduct the Advanced Design Swim Test for Out-of-Staters. Thus satisfying ordinance, #, uh, (Council, please install proper ordinance # here please), recertifying the pond.

Upon completion of certification Mr. King shall also have properly sized MUMU to wear during the recovery process.

Other activities are in the planning stages. Come one, come all!

Thank you for your time this morning.

Thanks for the notification SWEET.

Regarding the 70 mph club, I think the ODSS members know that Doughboy will not be participating (even with the R-10 unit installed).

Regarding the Fulton Extraction procedures, I carefully examined the pictures from last year and was thinking the proper attire may be this:

Just a small question for the Fulton Ring Extraction Device safety supervisors. Does the steering wheel come with the device or does the extraction team have to remove said wheel from the submerged vehicle while "Buddy Breathing" with our dashing leader? Also, please please don't post photos of Don in his MUMU. I sure would love to be there but at my advanced age I don't think my funny bone could take it.

Since I was approved by the ODSS President himself, as a ODSS member.
I would like to make a motion that a Mumu be eliminated, from the Fulton Ring Extraction requirement and replaced with B.A.N (Buck-A__-Naked).
Also that the SAA, that administers the extraction, shall be properly dressed with the official ODSS dust mask.
In case there is a methane leak during the extraction.
Pictures will be required when the SAA closely inspects, the said extractor, for physical fitness before the extraction.

I would also ask, that Mr.Hambone be my Second, during the extraction.
Some of the really clear water that the President may bring, may make the inspection easier for the SAA.

This can't be much worse the the ejector seat I was sitting in two years ago.
I think Leo knows something about that.

Jim... You're not as dumb as Joe says wink

And thankyou for getting the salutation correct finally. And as a token of my generosity, good sportsmanship, good taste and gentlemanly deportment, I've decided that you, indeed, are actually the 1-ton Speed King this year smile I do hereby surrender my title, crown, sash, baton, cape, red slippers, ceremonial dagger and Dust Mask to you, your most exalted and serene Eminence, Mr. Schmidt, Sir. I keep the dog, though.

I personally think the seargent at arms and I should take out 53 1-ton's vehicle and reconfirm that speed record.

Sure. But the regs clearly stipulate that you have to have the Official ODSS 1-ton Speed Umpire along to confirm all record runs. The official ODSS 1-ton Speed Umpire is, of course, Freyja. If, after she witnesses your run, comes back to the shop and sees her shadow (which she signals by barking twice, following by lifting her left rear paw in the air, and barking one last time), then you will, indeed, be the new record holder.

That rule (the whole speed umpire thing) was passed during the last session of the ODSS 1-ton speed records executive committee (consisting of Freyja and I) about 3 minutes ago.

Oh ... and we also made a rule that the rules can't be changed until the next meeting of the committee*. Which we also scheduled for new member appointments (membership is fixed until then).

Um, when is that next meeting, you ask? Ah ... yes ... um, well the first opening on a very packed calendar was the 18th of April ... 2028. We hope that isn't terribly inconvenient for any of you ...

smile

* UNLESS ... a meeting of the Rules Supreme Governing Authority Board of the ODSS meets and it's decisions are ratified by the ODSS President. Last I checked, that board was Grigg Jr., NAPCO Man, VEW and one vacancy (no proxies). And all had to be present to constitute a quorum (even the vacancy ...). So good luck with that ... smile

I called Hagerty last week about restrictions on driving my 1954 Suburban. The "restrictions" are:

- all adults in my family must have another insured (by anybody) vehicle
- my Hagerty-insured vehicle(s) are stored in a locked garage
- my Hagerty-insured vehicle(s) cannot be used for work or for a business or to make/earn money (negotiable, if being paid to be in a movie or a parade)

I can drive it any day (all day) to a store (daily errands - I am now retired), to my friends' houses, or to just take myself, relatives/friends for a joy-ride or to dinner, or to the park, or in a parade, or to see a doctor/dentist.

There are no mileage restrictions (or, speed restrictions).

Debbie ... He doesn't spend 24/7 there, right? That leaves a few hours he can be here for homecoming.

But even if he can't, Do you really need Mark??? Isn't it *your* Burb, after all?? We'll have plenty of mechanics on duty around the clock.
