Good afternoon all,

My name is Daniel "Chambo" Chamberlain. I'll introduce myself and then ask my starting questions.

First and foremost, I've spent little to no time under the hood of any vehicle, especially classics. I own a Harley and have used it as a catalyst for my garage knowledge. Of course I can do most "man tasks" such as change oil, brakes, fuel filters (when not in the tank), spark plugs, shocks and struts, and most other "bolt on" repairs or replacements. However, when it comes to actually building engines or rebuilding a project car I have absolutely zero experience.

I'm currently deployed to the Middle East, and before I flew out I purchased a 1958 Chevy Apache short step side. When I break out of the newbie phase for the forum I'll get some photos up. The truck hasn't ran in years, per the previous owner. It has a straight 6 235 (I believe was the size used in this year range) which I assume is original to the truck. Beyond that, I know nothing else about this truck.

What i would like to turn it into... a show truck and a daily driver. I've had my heart set in an LS3 with a cam and turbo... but I know that speaks to way more than a daily driver/ show truck.

I'm really here to get input on the rebuild. Direction and guidance on parts, how to guides, do and don't, etc.

I appreciate ahead of time all the input the community throws my way.

Have a wonderful day.

Welcome Chambo. You're starting out right simply by joining this group. Collectively, we pretty well know all there is to know. You should check out the HiPo shop, that's for modified trucks. I'm sure others have already done what you intend to do. Any other specific questions can be posted in the most appropriate forum. W@e are here to help, don't be shy.

Chambo, welcome to the Stovebolt and thank you for your service. You join many other veterans here....both of military and veterans working on these old trucks.
Follow Leo's advice and you'll be just fine. Take your time to sort through everything and remember, we are here to help.

Thanks guys! I have already dove head first into the forums with my ridiculous questions.

I'm sure everyone gets this feeling when starting their first rebuild, but I currently have that "It is better to be silent and thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt." feeling. haha!

Chambo, no stupid questions here. We ALL had to learn and ask the same questions as "newbies" somewhere along the line.

When you get back and get ready to start on your project, send me an email. I've got a 40 Chevy coupe with a 5.3 and I'm about to do a LS1 in my 42 Chevy truck. Your project is much easier because of the size of the engine bay. Stay safe and keep your head down.
