I have seen 55 to 57 v8's painted gray and chevy red orange which would be correct?? Or was there a change over sometime between the years??

I'm referring to a 57 3100 265 or 283. I've seen unrestored trucks with the engine color the red orange but I have also seen some restored trucks with them gray. So did they get it wrong??
