I have been sanding and priming and bondoing the back of my cab.Now I am up to the rear window. I would like to remove the glass which is in good shape. the gasket is cracked and hard.What would be a safe way to remove it. No broken glass or cut fingers. Thanks for any ideas.

I usually use a utility knife and cut away the rubber. You can actually stick the blade in at a 90* angle, into the rubber but above the metal lip, and pull toward yourself. Or cut along the glass edge. Either way.

You didnt say what year youre working on,, but as Mark Smith says, go ahead and cut away the old cracked, hard rubber with a utility knife and have a friend help you remove the glass.
Make sure you use ONLY STEELE CO. rubber products for replacements.

its on my 59 cab. small window. Used the knife today and the gasket is very hard. Also found there is a bead in the gasket, that has hardened and breaks as it is removed. Will look at steele and co for a replacement.

Ah! success . The bead was very hard and broke about every 2" but got the knife between the window and the gasket that worked best. looks like the window wass never out and that the truck was a dark green.The vin plate said green but the chart for that number was a light green. more yellow. I may be reading the chart wrong.
