The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks 1960 K20 parking brake routing-missing pieces

I am building a 1960 k20 that was used on local farms it's entire life. At some point a previous owner removed just about every memory of the parking brake system. There is still the brake hand lever and a cable attached to it that leads to a bracket below the back of the cab, but there is nothing from there back. Even the parking brake parts inside the drum were removed.

I found all the parts inside the drum from another h072 but have no real idea how the rear cables route or how long they should be, or if I'm missing anything else.

Does anyone have a picture or diagram of how a 1960 k20 would route it's parking brake cables? Or a part number or place to buy the missing pieces?

Should be about the same for your truck. Into backing plate and length of cables might be different based on your axle and wheelbase. Graphics come from the assembly manual and maybe something to consider for your library. The manual is a great reference.

This will get you on your way to finding the bits and pieces in a junk yard and replacement cables from a vendor like inline tube.

Thank you for the link, I believe the setup is the same up to that linkage in the third picture, but I think everything from there back is different on the 4wd as I have leaf springs instead of trailing arms. Do you know where the cables hang on the 4x4? Is it just a straight shot from that linkage to the backing plate? That inline tube site looks very good too

I think I have rounded up the little pieces I needed, but I can't seem to find anyone who sells 1960 k20 rear parking brake cables. There are lots of 2wd options.

Does anyone know the proper cable length and casing length for a 1960 k20? Or the factory part number? If I knew the proper dimensions I could have some made or maybe find something from another application that would work.

On my 1960 C20, parking brake is right off tranny.

No it does not

K model trucks from factory did not have the emergency brake on the transmission

If my K10 is representative, it agrees with the diagram posted previous.

Just a heads up inline tube sent me cables that were a little short but I made them work, they were informed of them not being the correct length.
