Hello,

I'm building a 1960 k20 and finally need to do more than lurk on the stovebolt. I've had a few of these trucks and lots of muscle cars and old motorcycles, and I studied mechanical engineering in school.

The k20 has been used on farms in my area since it was new, and I think I have a full history of it's ownership since new, though it would be nice to know a little more. It has a 235 with a sm420 and t221, the date codes on the tcase and trans are from dec 59.

The truck runs and drives well but has had a rough life one would expect from nearly 60 years on farms. I've replaced a lot of sheet metal and rebuilt the entire brake system, and just been steadily working through all the problems I've found in it over the last 8 or 9 months. It is staying very original.

All the best,
Wil

Welcome Wil, These trucks are real workhorses and will continue to work if well maintained. Nice to know about its history too. Be sure to check out the 60-66 forum, lots of trucks like yours there.

Will, welcome to the Stovebolt Page. You may also find some good stuff in the BIG BOLT FORUM. Folks here are willing to help. Just ask questions in the most appropriate forum and you'll get the help needed.

Hi Hambone,

I just read through your write up about your k10-very cool! Do you think your 66 k10 parking brake is set up the same as my 60? I'm missing just about everything from the first cable back. I tried posting in the 60-66 area but am still under the watchful discretion of that moderator.

Where would be a good place to post questions about 4wd parking brakes?

Didahdah, You have to make one more post and then you are good to send Hambone, and anyone else, private messages (PM's). In the meantime you CAN post questions in forums. This particular question would probably be OK in the General Truck or 60-66 Forum. Heck, on second thought, the question may do well in the DRIVELINE forum??
Don't worry, you'll get it all figured out and we'll help you do it.

Is that a plow bracket on the front? Nice hardy look for the truck.

I just removed the bumper to straighten it and realized some previous owner built those brackets and put the bumper on upside down. Seems like every half hour job on this truck ends up taking days to straighten out instead, but I know you guys like seeing pictures. I'll take some more once it dries out and I have it back together

Thanks joek, your truck looks great. I am only doing a mechanical restoration as needed on mine, I doubt my truck will ever have body work done to the degree yours has! Do you recall the name of the grey colors you used on the interior?
