I had ordered a counter gear assembly off of eBay for my 1953 chevy 1/2 ton with a 318 3 speed tranny....When I received the gear the gear measurements were Slightly different even tho the tooth count was the same and the teeth seem to line up.
The thickness of the gear at the end of the assembly on my old one measured 0.667 and the new one measures 0.590.
The length of the assembly is correct and the countershaft is correct.
Were truck 318 and car 318 tranny the same ?
It looks like the counter gear assembly would fit but what about the effect of the thinner gear.
I am now waiting for the authorization to return the gear, but before I do I want to hear opinions. ....

This gear is an aftermarket gear as listed. Aftermarket parts do not always match GM parts exactly.
I have excepted your return request on ebay though.

Dave...do you think your part will work even with it having a thinner gear set ??? Have you ever sold one of these aftermarket assemblies before ?
Let me assure you that this is in no way a critism of you. I would like to use this part if it is all posible and since I am only a hobiest and not a professional tranny guy I have to ask if it is possible to have this work.???
Let me know what you think. thanks
