This was my grandpas. It's been rotting forever, I want to restore it to nice daily driver. I don't even know where to start, I am not a novice, but I have never done a frame off restore. I have no idea where to start, but it will be fun.

Looks like the link is broken, so you will have to copy and paste it.

Welcome to the Stovebolt Page.

Take a little time to make a "plan" as to what you want to do with it...
The place to ask questions is the garage forums. Engine questions in the Engine Forum....body stuff in the Paint and Body Forum....driveline in Driveline Forum. There are many forums here so choose the one closest to your question. If it can be better served in another forum the moderators will move it for you to where you will be better served.
Folks here are great about helping and contributing to help you get your project on the road. It does require patience.... but if you will do at LEAST 15 minutes EVERDAY you will be surprised at the end of the month!!

Good luck and we're here to help.

Oh, I can't get the link to work for some reason but it may be on my end. One other thing is the Stovebolt Reunion is the first of Sept. so be sure to mark your calendar for a good time in Kansas City, Mo. What a great weekend.

Welcome Derpy, can't open the link but it's good to have your grandfather's truck. Check out our whole site, maybe get a shop manual for your model. Make a plan and go for it. We are here to help, don't be shy.

welcome to the site! Truck looks like it is mostly there! Do you have the fender trim and hood emblem? Also, I can't tell if it has 8 lugs or real large 6 lug pattern.... with duals, and what looks like 8 lugs, it should be a 1-ton.

I am sure it is a 1 ton. No, meth heads stole the fender trim, hood emblem, and radiator. It does have duals and a flatbed. Next time I am down I will look at the lugs, but I am 99% sure it is 8.

I plan on putting on a new frame, and maybe a v-8 and a new transmission, I am sure that is geared to farm work.

A good place to start is a complete brake inspection and overhaul. Tackle getting it started next. This is where you can get plenty of help in the engine forum. I am a novice but there are some real geniuses who frequent the forum and are more than willing to provide guidance and help you resolve problems.

Dave, not to be mean and disagree but for me I like to get them running first. I spent $$$ once on a brakes only to find out afterwards that the engine was going to require a lot of time and work while all the money I spent on brakes was "just sitting there". I'm glad to report that the brakes still worked as I made sure I pumped them once or twice a week.

.....regardless of how you do it, Derpy, everyone will agree it must both WHOA and GO.....Safety is paramount to success.
