In early Powerglide cars, a higher horsepower engine (235 vs 216) was put in Powerglide cars (1950 -1953). Those 235s also had hydraulic lifters (to be quieter, I suppose - maybe stealing a little more horsepower?).
Pre '68 Dave might correct us/me, and will know which 235 application had the larger valves. I used those larger valves (stainless steel V-8 valves, maybe) in my 1954 235 Hydra-Matic engine when it was rebuilt a few years ago. | | |
