try an orbital buffer first with a good wax maybe? If that doesn't do the trick, use a wool or possibly a sponge type pad on a variable speed buffer with a final finishing compound. I would only use a final buff compound, as others would cut away at the paint more, and you probably don't have too much left to spare, after 50 years.
