Where can I find a good paint supplier in Alberta, Canada? I live close to Edmonton and Red Deer. Almost done one cab and thinking about POR for the undersides? Anybody done this? Good/bad?

Fox.... get all your Canadian Tire Money together. If you go to their webiste, they have it available. I used and Edmonton store for the search and it's there. I used the POR 15 Site and it gave me cities in Washington state.

By the way, I see you have a KMS in Edmonton. They have it too and cheaper.

Hey Fox,
I've seen Por products in KMS Tools Edmonton's store.

Endura in Edmonton has "bulletproof" epoxy primer and urethane topcoat that doesn't scratch.

Fellows for really great rust prevention look on the website of Rust Bullet site. The site is located in Reno-Sparks Nevada area. I have used this product and very happy on how easy it went on. Use their Metal Blast to get all the oil, grease and wax off before you use it. I was very happy with how easy it was to use.

HI Fox. You might want to try a epoxy primer and paint.
I understand POR 15 is not UV resistant and needs a top coat.
Like some things that everyone sees advertised and most folk use it may not be the best choice.(think WD-40/ armourall)
Not on my truck thank you!

After all your good work and fine results protect it with the best coating.
I understand winter has hit with a deep cold front.

Howies551Ton, what epoxy primer did you use? I don't much care for the new eco friendly PPG, but then I am not a professional and may not have the skills to use it to it's best advantage. Having said that, I did fine with the old formula.

Howie, in my "travels" through many different automotive forums, I have noticed that our neighbors to the north in Canada seem to have a VERY strong following to POR style paints. You seem to be an exception to the rule. I've had good experiences with using it and also complete failure where it peeled off in sheets. Working on other's vehicles and needing to warranty the work has steered me away from using such paint that didn't in my view provide consistent, reliable results. For further education on such products, can you share your experiences with POR that have you using Epoxy instead?

I'd like to chime in.
Having an extensive career background in coatings I can assure anyone that there is absolutely nothing better than any 2 part epoxy on bare and clean steel for corrosion resistance.
POR products are a version of urethane and a moisture cure at that. Any 2 part product (ones needing activator) will always outperform other single stage type coatings.
Think of it this way....when adding an activator you're actually finishing the manufacturing process which can't be done at factory due to the curing times. Air dry or moisture cure products are easier to use but come without the benefits of a 2 part product.

The moisture is the activator (a moisture activated urethane) , making POR-15 a "2-part" product.

"POR-15 is cured and strengthened by exposure to moisture and will dry faster under extreme humidity, but moderate to dry atmospheric conditions are most desirable when applying this product, because extreme humidity may cause an immediate surface cure, trapping carbon dioxide gas below the surface. I tried port 15 and did not like the process of wash ,metal prep,so I only used a small amount and when I went to use it again it was all hardened and no longer good.there is a simular product called chassis saver that does not require the metal wash and prep.your have to were gloves and use a disposable container every time you use also if there is any paint on the can when sealed you will not be able to open it again.I used plastic wrap between the can and lid.

The moisture cured epoxies are quite a bit more brittle which some may find reassuring as a sign of strength.
Personally I want an epoxy that has some flex and give making it less susceptible to cracking from rock strikes and letting moisture in.
I tried the chassi saver once. Some stuck some stripped off in sheets.
I'll stick with a quality epoxy that was used on the pebble beach concours winner this year. Southern Polyurethanes inc.
More protection less cost. Was a no brainer for me.
