Hello everyone.

I have been playing with a truck now on the side of the road. No brakes and a rock hard pedal with no give. Was thinking it was the Hydrovac but after some testing found that the small brake hose under the master is completely plugged. Not having any luck finding a part number and was checking to see if anybody might know it. It's about 8" long and bolts to the frame. I know it needs everything replaced but need to get it off the side of the road first.

Thanks, Dan

Hy danimal, welcome, a check of my parts book could not locate a part number for the line you require. Could you possibly tell us the type and size of the fittings on the hose? A good hydraulic shop may be able to make you what you need at least as a temporary repair, hope that helps.

Danimal - I don't post much because other projects seem to keep me away from my 66 GMC 5500, but I did get this far. My master to hydrovac setup is different, with a solid line to a short hose that gives some flex between cab and frame, but I couldn't find a stock replacement hose and had to have one made. Take the hose to almost any parts store and they can either make one or tell you where to get this done. It could be expensive, so you might call around for prices, and modern hoses seem to have smaller inside diameters - but my truck still stops.

Drive it home first, that is what emergency brake is for.

Thanks for looking everyone. Thought I might get lucky. I found a place to have the hose made. 40 mile drive but that's what you get for living in the country!

New brake hose problem. Have moved onto the front brake hoses. Searched the sight for part numbers and found BH-36696. Hose is the right length, correct fittings, but thread length is to short because it must pass through brake line to bottom wheel cylinder. Tried to upload pic of the difference. Does anybody have a different part #???.

Hy danimal, I searched for about an hour between Raybestos, RockAuto and Napa, I even looked up the GM p/n and crossed it at Napa that came back to BH36696 (their p/n UP36696). We know that is incorrect because it is not long enough on the 7/16" X 20 t.p.i. end to go through the banjo fitting and make a connection, and it is not drilled or machined for the side connection.I did try a few other Raybestos numbers but either their picture descriptions are incorrect or they are not the correct hose either, I'll keep looking but I'm running out of resources to check with.

Thanks for looking Master. I think I've spent more time searching for parts online than I have working on the truck. On a side note, the hose under the master cylinder that I had made,,, found a part number BH-38908.

Hy danimal, after a lot of searching I think I might have a solution if you can locate the part. I found a couple of Wagner p/ns for banjo bolts which have a seat in the outboard end once installed, the p/ns are FC11257 or FC42100. I did try to cross these numbers at the Napa and RockAuto sites with no luck. I wish you luck in your search, and Merry Christmas.

Hy danimal, the GM p/n for FC42100 is 2449792, hope that helps you find that elusive banjo bolt.

Hy danimal, your brake hose problem has been driving me crazy (a short ride to be sure) ever since you posted it. Today the temperature is actually above zero and the gale force winds have abated so I decided to trudge through the snow to a truck I have for parts to see if it had the "line adapters" on it. I cut the hose and removed the line from the wheel cylinder I took the line into my shop and cleaned it up on the wire wheel. After the cleaning I noticed another copper washer at the end of the first major hex on the wheel cylinder end, I also noticed another hex farther up on the flex line end. I placed the major (larger) hex in the vice and turned the smaller hex at the line end and the two pieces came apart. That left me with the "line adapter" and the line which looks like exactly what the pictures in the brake parts catalogue show. At that point I came back into the house to take another look at the pictures you posted of your original line, and I can see the copper washer at the end of the major hex in your picture. So you actually have two pieces there, you just have to take them apart and you will have all the parts you require to replace your front brake flexible lines, hope that helps. And Merry Christmas to everyone!

Thanks for checking ya'll.

I had the hoses rebuilt this past weekend. They used the original ends with new hose. While trying to find the front hoses, I found the hose at the rear axle. # BH-36563. Hope that helps someone else down the road.

Master,
Looking at the picture again, I think I see what you mean. The hose company said they were going to cut off the old end, and re drill it. I bet they figured out what you did after cleaning it up. I should have looked closer, but, It was down in the sixties here. (Too cold to think strait) smile
