I am out of room under this old pointy nosed hood and need a large area air filter so the little Cummins I installed can breathe properly. My idea is to find or build a miniature version of the large, cowl mounted air filter canisters like you see on big rigs (there is a pic below). Would really like stainless or aluminum, but I'm not set up to fab or weld either metal. Any suggestions for a qualified builder of similar parts? I remember seeing them in the hallways of the high school where I taught for 20-something years. They're obsolete now, but you might find one around a scrap metal yard. They're polished stainless steel about 8" in diameter and heavy duty enough to be durable when mounted outboard on the cowl. With a little tinkering you should be able to make a pretty presentable air filter housing.
Edit: Several on Ebay right now, at good prices. Jerry

Top and bottom.... I just finished doing the dishes and we have a selection of stainless pot lids. Lots of different shapes in stores. Just an Idea. It is cylindrical but positioned horizontally instead of vertically. You should be able to mount it in any orientation. Air don't care. If it has to be shiny, you can always chrome it.
