when replacing the front main seal on a 1954 235 we noticed right above/in between the two timing gears there was a crimped oil line. is this how it is meant to be or is it meant to be open to allow oil to lubricate the gears?

There should be a tube with a small hole in the side aimed at the gears.

In my '38 216 there's a brass fitting screwed into the block with a small hole in it. Oil draining back from the rockers drips through it to lube the gears. I'm assuming the 235 is about the same.

It's apparently important since the service manual explains how to aim the discharge hole at the gear teeth.
