For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 206 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 206 | I'm looking for any info on a 59 to 63 limited slip unit for 1/2 ton trucks. I came across one with a 3.90 gear and can only find it in my parts book as a 60-63 option. 59 looks a little different. its type in the book is 10-910 for 60-63. Any help is appreciated. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | What do you want to know? Asking for "any info" is vague and time consuming. https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/762193/1.html

I've only heard about them and never come across one in my 45 years on these trucks. repair manual, where can I find parts, what ever you can tell me about this particular rear would be useful. approximate value in useable condition | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | Read Stovebolt link I added above. A real, era correct differential from 1959 is rare. The value of a hypothetical unit is not possible to determine and will depend on the actual year. Rare is not always valuable. In the case, the value is as usual: Condition? Ratio? Where is it? Who has it? How bad do you need it? How bad does the seller need it? Asking price. Sales history. Result: Free to $500. Can't imagine that it would not need rebuilt and if so, where are you going to get clutches and etc. for a 59? I rebuilt a genuine 1960 Dana 44 (open), the parts were listed as 60-up. Chevy and GMC were in a huge transition in differentials at that exact time. Books say one thing, actual truck have anothers. HO's, 44's, 45's, several "10 bolt" styles. The ring gears have ratio and date stamped on edge.

Its definitely not a Dana or Spicer. It was in a 58 59 truck but could have been swapped out years ago from a 60 -63 truck. I realize its value is limited to what the guy that wants it is willing to pay. Now I just need to find a manual on it. I would expect it to be in a 60-66 manual
Thanks for the help. Eaton H033 limited slip has popped up a lot of info | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | Do you have a Chevy truck? Does it have this diff? Do you just have a diff? Did you find a diff for sale? What are you doing or wanting to do? I would take a moment and consider upgrading, for a million reasons. The '63 to early '70 12 bolt is the same width as your Eaton HO32/33. Usually Limited slip in those days were for 4X4 and hauling. Now a days it's for that, but much more for acceleration.(Hot Rodding) Why would you need Posi in an old truck or why add it now? It IS going to be hard/impossible to find new parts and very expensive if you do. Car parts probably don't fit truck parts.

I just wanted some details on it to check it out and make sure its good. Or where to get parts if it needs anything. My initial thought was it may be in the $400-$500 range because I see car units going for $800 to $1000.
I really detest the "RARE" term when used by people selling what we all know to be common items or not so rare items so I don't use it very often. My thinking was if I had only heard of and never seen one in 45 year of working on 47 to 59's it must be somewhat rare. But on the same point I'm sure someone has come across a dozen in his/her time. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 |
