In teardown, I'm evaluating the places I need to replace parts or patch. Front fenders are off, leaving the firewall exposed.

On the driver's side, there looks to be a separate bracket bolted in,which extends from the cowl inner panel down to the toe panel; and the inner fender bolts to this. What is this bracket called?

Is there supposed to be a similar piece on the passenger side?

Looks like maybe mine was rusted out, and the PO just welded things together. Anyone know where I can find a new one, or what it's called so I know what to ask for?

Thanks,
mark.

Hi Mark,
I've had a look in two parts dogalogs and found nothing. My 53 is in pieces, however i my part shelf i only have of these brackets. ( i hope i haven't lost anything). Mine is opposite hand though, as we drive onthe other side of the road. I suggest you email a parts store and ask them what it's name is.

That pc. is the emergency brake bracket and is only on the drivers side. The passenger side tub bolts directly to the toeboard. As far as I know it is not reproduced. You'll have to find a used one.

The part is well shown in the Factory Assembly Manual with a GM part number. Good used ones are hard to find due to rust.

To answer your question....

No, there's not one on the passenger side.

Why are you people telling him he needs to find a used part that doesn't exist? He said he has the one on the driver side. That's all there is.

I'm not even sure I know what piece you guys are talking about but I currently have a 52 panel that has the "corner" piece of the cowling rusted out. The fellow I got it from said Chevy Duty has the piece to replace it with down to the indentions like original. I have not got mine a part yet or even looked at my assembly manual but if you are talking about the same thing it is available for sure.... I was cautioned to ask for the "deluxe" piece to be sure I get it with all the indentions etc.... this is strictly for what its worth dept.!!!!

51 KY,
if you contact someone like M T, you will be able to get a good used one. I am repairing mine because there is enough left to determine how it is supposed to be formed.

Of interest, one of the holes in my bracket does not line up with the new toeboard hole. Looking at my old toeboard, I discovered that they had to drill a second hole in the toeboard at the factory to match the bracket.
