Did you forget the bulkhead bolts?

I took the little , original , horn off the truck and mounted a pair of the long horns , GREAT sound

Didn't think about that. got rained out. The junk yard owner said I can take all I want. Will get those next trip. Thanks.

Replaced drag link and put modern tie rod ends on the old beast. The advice in the tech tips helped greatly. I did have to take the steering arms to a machine shop to press out the original balls due to my substandard shop supplies, but other than coaxing 60 year old nuts and parts apart it went quite smooth.

This weekend, I got engine and transmission between the frame rails, headers and Fenton intake on , both carbs and linkage on, HEI distributor on the engine

Finally got the horn installed and wired and everything works. Had to work some magic to get everything to fit right. It's more complicated when mixing parts from different years/models. (Going forward to eventually go backwards and forward again.)

Got any pictures of that horn?

I'll have to get one posted soon. The issue I'm having now is that when I turn the steering wheel left and right, the horn honks when the wheel is turned around where the wheel is near straight center. I took off down the road and honked every time I corrected left and right and hit center. Had to stop and unhook the relay until I can get it figured out. (I think the people walking down the street thought I was honking at them) BTW, it's nothing fancy, I had grabbed a pair of horns from a 73-87 when I was walking around the junk yard.

There's nothing fancy on an old stovebolt. With all our members here, we all occasionally have a good idea. Show your truck via photos and there's a good chance someone will spot something you've done that would work on his truck.

The horn works by grounding the wire that runs from the horn button to the horn relay.
When you depress the horn button it grounds the wire to the steering column.
Sounds like you've got a skinned wire grounding out in the steering column by the steering wheel.

I replaced the door glasses on my 50 today.

Washed it

I installed a vacuum gauge under the dash. I actually bought two on eBay- one I liked and thought looked cool, and then I found a Mercruiser vacuum gauge that matches my tach, so I bought it too. They both work, though the Mercruiser gauge needs to be cleaned up. I put the other one (a "Powergide") in a single gauge panel under the dash.

I have several items on my bucket list:
1) My air-conditioner has been less than adequate this summer and needs checking out.
2) My radio purchase was a mistake as this one has no USB for recorded music. This one I believe will fit the bill.

3)The cotter pin on the arms of the windshield wipers has come loose. With all the wiring and air vent hoses under the dash this will be a real challenge.
The best time in Texas to tweak stuff is in the winter if you have a garage. There I'm waiting for some cold weather to get started. I did make a list. That's above.

Another leisurely, but productive day. Installed pistons, oil pump, strainer, etc. and oil pan. Also installed front cover. Ready to move on to valves... need to pull 216 out of the truck to get the flywheel (235 was ahead of a Powerglide).

I started the 56 and drove it around the place. It has a loud barring noise when the transmission is in neutral. I drives quiet so I don't think its the thou-out barring. It steers hard compared to my other old trucks. But any, It started! It drives!

Reassembled generator, installed distributor, cut plug wires to length, built bracket to mount new square coil on the 261 for the 50 1 ton.
Painted the rotors, calipers, axles, drums, spindles for the 70 c10.

Got the grill area cleaned up and repainted with some spray paint. Looks pretty good to me and should be able to get the grill back in sometime this week. Since my parking area is moving houses, I had to finally weld up the rear spring perch. It's ugly, but it'll hold for now. On the list to do this week is to put all the glass back in so it can be moved and stored outside. I should still be able to do little stuff by using cordless tools and hand tools while in storage to get it to where I can park it in the driveway and work from home.

Hey Scott, any progress is a step forward. Ready to drive by June!

I'll commit to June. Just don't hold me to what year that June is in!

Boy do I relate to that! In 2008 I said I'd have her in a car show in 2009. In 2009 I said I'd have her in a car show in 2010. In 2010 I said I'd have her in a car show in 2011. But it happened in 2012. It's hard to know what obstacles you will discover as you go.

Ok, I'll hold you to that.

I pulled my original recirculating heater out of the 54 3100. I cleaned it up, repainted it and ordered a replacement 12v motor for the 6v motor fried by the previous owner when he converted from a 6v system to 12v system. The new decals have been ordered.

I decorated my 1934 Headless Chevy pickup for the night.

Since my last post I have had my sreering column cut down so I can install factory 57 turn signals and 57 dished steering wheel. I have new bearings and bushings for the steering box. I bought another 292 so I can send one to Sissell raceing to be built and have the other one to mock up and drive. I bought an aluminum radiator with 33oo cfm electric chrome fan. I'm bidding on a tremec 5 speed 3650 tranny.

Weeds

Well. Weeds this is how you do it.
I pulled and cleaned my plugs out in front of the barn with the wind blowing 35 mph. After lunch I installed my new radio antenna with the truck inside the barn as the 95 degree temp was melting my paint.

Had some time Saturday - drained the oil that's been in the 228 for 15 years - black as coal. Pulled the filter housing to clean the gunk out of the bottom - found the rubber hose part of the inlet was dry-rot broken, will need to get another or fabricate it. Pulled a rear hub cap and found oil sitting in it - so will add replacing seals to to-do list. Cut a couple of pallets down so I have a temporary bed floor. Pulled and dumped the oil bath cleaner - now it's soaking. Realized the garage needed to be rearranged to bring the tools closer to the truck - that was Sunday afternoon....

Well should be able to throw down some paint this week. then wiper transmission arm assy and power window set up. and cruise

Went out to start the '48 Suburban yesterday morning and it was stubborn and cranky. Ran the battery down so it's on the charger waiting for me to try again today. I have been battling some minor health issues that have taken my attention away from the Burb for about a month and now she's mad at me. I'll go out in a bit and rub on her a little. Bet she'll fire up then.

Fabbed up the support for seat. I'm using a seat from Dodge Durango. To get the right height, I needed to get about 5 inches of support so I was able to use front bumpers from a Jeep, cut to size. took about 8 hrs. In the early morning, I also took a quick trip to the boneyard to get the parking brake lever from the rear drum brakes off of a '68 Monza. I'm using a 73 camaro rear end and the boneyard was easier than opening up my wallet to buy it online.

I have added a rev counter to the truck . My speedo is very vague and hard to read and the law make special attention to speed , especially on holiday weekends , with very small tolerance allowed. So I bought a cheap (and nasty) Veethree instrument . Then had to get my SIL to create a device to make it read accurate , all good now .

This weekend I took the gas tank out - it surprised me by giving me 6 gallons of 15 year old gas - not sure how to get rid of it. Had to go buy a gas container to put it in. Then finished pulling the seat brackets so I could start cleaning the rust and getting it ready to put on some protective paint. Next weekend I'll attempt to clean the tank. Looks in overall good condition but when I emptied it the first several inches of fuel line were clogged with dirt so the whole system is going to be a challenge. I'll have to search to site to see if there's any clues on cleaning fuel lines.

I rebuilt the rear wheel cylinders. I started working on the wiring under the dash but my grand kids came over so I put everything away and spent the afternoon with them.

Got the back window in without falling this time! Leg still shows the wounds from last week and it's still rather tender. Also got the grill repainted and put back together. Pulled the passenger side door to put the weather strip on. Found out that I'm gonna have to replace the metal where the retaining strip goes on since it's rusted out. Which means I'll be in the market this week to buy a welder since when I checked the drivers side door, it has rusted out in spots too.

I have removed the front springs out of Grandpa's old c10. My homemade spring compressor worked really well. New ball joints, freshen up of paint on the springs along with the new 5 lug spindles and I should have it rolling again.

Put the cab back on the chassis after a two year separation for restoration of both.
Also picked up the front sheet metal and doors from the sandblaster.
