My Paint guy is putting together the front sheet metal and hood because frankly, I couldn't make it all fit before sending it to paint. So is it possible to put the engine in while the hood is attached? What do you all think/know?

I would think you will have to take the radiator, support, grill, hood latch components, etc; out first. Room for your cherry picker will be limited by the hood. lots of furniture moving blankets to cover up the new paint. A challenge for sure. Good luck.

Invest in getting a Load Leveler to help angle the engine into the bay. It will be possible with everything else in tact. Like Martin says, get some furniture moving blanks too.

I installed studs on the sides of the firewall so one person can hang it by oneself, then just have to install and tighten nuts.

| | | | | Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 264 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 264 | Well ive got the big bolt, but I've just finished doing what you are trying. Took out upper rad support, rad and grill. The motor is the tall deck 292, but like I said it's a big bolt so a little taller too.
I also used tow straps around the block and oil pan (2" wide ones) and had hoist hook only about an inch from the rocker cover. It was a touch ornery moving it about, but saved taking a whole lot more sheet metal off.

I remove the front hinge bolts & loosen the rear & tip the hood back. Or remove the front hood bolts & loosen the rear & put a block of wood between the hinge & hood to tip it back. When you work by yourself you can't be handleing that heavy stuff by yourself. If you have the trans on it it is a different story.
