Hey Guys,
I am trying to finish my 292 build.
So far I have cut out intake port installed bolt in lumps 1.94" intake Manley ss valves 1.45" exhaust Manley ss valves Isky double valve springs and Harland Sharp roller rockers
Forged 8.0 to 1 Venolia Pistons Balanced and indexed crank and special grid cam from Schreider(Spelling?)And I have a T03/4 turbo sitting and waiting. The one thing I am having a problem finding is some stock length connecting rods that will handle 500+ hp any suggestions?

Thanks
Chris

Chris - if your pistons are significantly lighter than stock . . . then stock rods may well get you to 500 HP with a Turbo without strain.

I sent my stock 292 rods to Speed-o-motive in Covina CA

They reconditioned them, recentered the pin/crank bores and then matched them w/pins to my pistons. Assembly weights are all withing 1/2 gram and are quite a bit lighter than stock.

If you have your heart set on custom alloy rods - they can supply them or point you to someone who can.

With a set of ARP, or other high-strength rod bolts, and a good recondition on the lower end, you probably won't have any problems. Also, having the rods deburred and shot-peened will add a lot of strength to the stock units. I try to balance the smallblock V-8 rods I run on the circle track to 1/10 gram, but that's a little overkill sometimes. Checking rod length, and reconditioning all the rods to the length of the shortest one helps equalize the compression on all the cylinders, BTW.
