OK so I'm trying to find replacement rubber vacuum lines. There are two: one from the intake manifold to the piping on the firewall, that then feeds to the two speed rear end valve and another from the firewall piping to the line heading back to the hydrovac I believe.

I replaced the 2 short ones on my rear end switch (attached to the tranny, under the drivers feet) with regular fuel line with the same ID.

I agree with Mike...fuel hose works great.

I would go to a hydraulic shop and have them crimp up some hoses for you, using hose clamps and fuel line is a bit hokey in my opinion.

Jared, re-read the original post, he is talking about vacuum lines, not hydraulic lines. The original lines have hose clamps on them, nothing hokey about it, that is how they came from the factory.

I understand what he is talking about, my truck has the original vacuum lines and they are crimped lines, just thinking that the hyd shop should have some good vacuum hose and could crimp up some real tidy looking hoses.

Actually the one has 3/4" pipe thread crimped ends the other 1/2" threaded for a flared steel line crimped on ends (like a brake line). Ive been to 3 hydraulic places no one will do them because they're vacuum.
I may end u cutting ends of steel lines and doing the hose barb thing yet...

I'm not sure about your area, but here several of the local auto parts places, or any of the tractor dealers will make hoses... Don't tell them what its really for if you don't have to, just tell them you need a hose the same length and with the same ends. No need to confuse the phone jockey behind the counter with something they haven't seen. As far as using a hydraulic hose for the vacuum service, the worst that will likely happen is your pocket book is slightly thinner due to the more expensive hose. To the guy behind the counter that has no clue and finds out its not for the application he is supposed to sell, they might think that a hose rated for 3000 psi service will self destruct under a negative pressure of less than 14 psi and refuse to sell you one. If he gets really irate, tell him its the suction line to a small pump, they also are frequently under what would be considered vacuum pressures if the fluid was air.

When I hooked my 2 speed Diff. on my 46 COE, I used 3/8s steel brake lines and the 3/8s vac. hoses over them on both ends. They fit tight and I just wrapped wire around them where it showed on the firewall and painted it black to make it look old time. I shift on the go all the time and it is smoother than down shifting the trans.
