I am trying to assist another gentleman get his '37 1/2 ton back on the road. The transmission that was pulled out of the truck has casting number 590874 on it. A 3 speed car transmission in a truck?

I took one of my spare 4 speeds to the shop working on his truck and they are claiming that they can't get the transmission into the truck. Something about the input shaft being different.

Is there anyone more familiar with the car running gear that can help us sort out what we need to do to put a 4 speed back into this truck?

Does anyone have a 3 speed they are looking to part with?

Thanks for the help,

~Justin

590874 is a 1937-39 truck 3 speed. The passenger car 3 speed would be much to short. Here is a link to transmission lengths.
What is wrong with his 3 speed?
The input shaft design on Chevrolet's are the same from 1931 to the 80's. The shop is missing something.
The front bearing retainer did change in 1938 when Chevrolet changed to a ball bearing throw out bearing.

I'm not sure what was wrong with the old transmission. Is is now torn down to just a case.

I guess I didn't realize that 1/2T came with a 3 speed as well.

Match up his old input shaft with the new one to see if there is a difference.

Parts for that 3 speed are not that hard to come by.
