Hey all. Hope everyone's well.

I'm working on my (barn) doors and looking to see if someone has replaced the rubber cushions in the left door dovetail receiver. Mine have turned to stone (who'da thunk?) and am in the (slow) process of removing that part to replace the cushions. I'm thinking I'll have to modify another rubber part to the right size, but perhaps someone's beat me to the punch. Or maybe there is that elusive part out there.

thanks,

Tony

Thanks Mark for your idea. That dovetail is for the front doors and the rubber bumper(s) for that at chevsofthe40's doesn't show the actual part which I think is also for the front doors. The Panel barn doors are unique in that regard.

Haven't checked but did you put a note in the Parts Wanted forum?

Nah. Didn't post in the Parts Wanted forum. I need new rubber for what I'm doing. The dovetail bracket that holds the pads is fine.
I may end up crafting something by the time it's all said and done. Saw all of the rubber pads at the Restoration Specialties site. A little slicing and dicing and she'll be good.

Still, I will hang around and see what ideas the group has. I've got time. It will take me awhile to get that bracket off. lol

Here we go I think http://www.steelerubber.com/door-alignment-pad-70-1821-71.

In my parts price list(TM 10-1126)for the G506 trucks, of which mine is designated the G7105, it shows part #466836 Bumper Assy., L.H. Rear Door Dovetail (with pads part of the assembly I presume). Part #463145 Plate, Rear Door Bumper Wedge seems to me to be the part that engages with the #466836.

As an aside, the book shows Part #474884 Plate, Side Door Bumper Wedge (for all). Does that jive with the part # for the civvy trucks of that era? Just curious.

Well, I should have done a little more research to have the answer to that last question. Mark's previous post on this topic had a link that led to the wedge plate that does indicate Part #474884. So there !

Alright! Progress. Been tapping, juicing, and heating the fasteners, and my patience has paid off. Got the Dovetail Assy. off. http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/Milibolt/slideshow/Barn%20Doors

The pads were actually 2 pieces each. The inner pad actually has a little flex to it. Not much, but some. The pads from chevsofthe40's should work well, with maybe a little trimmage.
Hey. I picked up a tip from our new neighbor. To get a little grip on these slotted screws (and phillips for that matter) use a little grinding/lapping compound on the tip of the screwdriver. It really helped when I made my tries on the screws. Also said to get a little "mousemilk". Mousemilk?, I said. He was an aerospace worker, and said they used it all the time in the shop. So of course I will order some. Can't have enough varieties of penetrating oil, right ? :-)

I realize this issue I am yapping about is no big deal. It's part of a bigger deal for me though, as I'm working to get the doors in operation again. Both rod hooks (for the left door) need crafting. The spring for the left door closing rods need replacing (I've acquired one). The striker plate is worn out. The wedge is broken off . The surround (of the rear cargo area) has a crack in the upper corners. I will replace the 8 stovebolts and nuts that fasten the portion of the body behind the cab to the frame (as the blocks seem to have shrunk over the years. Maybe that helped lead to the body flexing that led to the damage of the latching mechanisms to the doors. Or maybe these big frames just do that. It's been this way since I've owned it. Anyway, starting to sort it out. Trying too, anyway.

That's good news. These old trucks and panels don't get that way overnight and fixing them don't happen overnight either.
You are entitled to take a day off so enjoy Saturday by sleeping late and letting the grass grow another week!

Ha! Thanks Alvin. I decided to take Saturday AND Sunday off. Yep, Miss Joy and I (along with our faithful canine) went up to a place in the mountains I'd never been to before. Kennedy Meadows near Sonora Pass in the High Sierra. Known as a Pack Station from way back, has cabins, and is also a jumpoff point for adventure of all kinds. Went for nice hike. Hung out by the river. Good chow. Great time !
