old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 97 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 97 | And if so, how was the fit? Was it wide enough and did you have to do a lot of fitment stuff to get it attached to the frame? I recently found one with disc brakes on the rear and it seemed to measure out close to what 'Fatman's' says I need for width in a rear end [so all will match up with their IFS kit].

Cut the spring perches off and weld them back on in the proper location. Easy job and if you can't find one with discs you can get conversion kits fairly reasonable. Just curious, why not use a extended cab S-10 frame and be done with it. BTW I have a Fatman front suspension on my '48 Suburban. Good quality stuff. Have fun with your build.

I think I know where one is [at our local junk yard]. Thanks so much for your thoughts - not everyone locally seems to have a handle on which way to go, at least for the 1946.

You may find some valuable info there. There are mounting kits sold that adapt older cabs to the S-10 frames. Cheaper way out.

What about attaching the front and rear [original] bumpers, any problems there? I also wanted to maintain its original 'stance' and not lower it more than a couple of inches ..... any thoughts regarding keeping close to the same height?

On an AD the S10 4WD rear is STILL too narrow but might be just right for a 46. We use a 1.25 inch spacer on the S10 to put the rear wheels in near factory location with the standard back spacing. Have step by step build pictures of an AD going on an S10 but might not help on a 46 build. This swap has been done many times so a search should get lots of hits. Good luck.
