I have noticed that almost every picture that I see the front part of the bar is chrome and the back part of the bar is painted.
Has anyone chromed the entire bar both front and back and did it look okay.
Was the orginal chrome grill painted on the back of the bars? | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 587 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 587 | Originally, on the chrome grilles, only the front bars were chromed. The back bars were painted. Either waldorf white or a silver color. I believe in 52 it was the silver. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | An original chrome grill in 1952 was rare (due to Korean War need for heavy/rare metals). An early 1952 truck might have had a chrome grill.
On 1951 grills, "The "back splash" bar of the painted grill was white. On chrome grills, only the outer bar was plated and the "back splash" bar was painted as the painted grill."
On the painted grill in 1952, "The “back splash” was light gray to match hub caps and bumpers [Thistle Gray?]." (from Jim Carter's website)

I've seen it and it lookks cheesey. | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 60 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 60 | Just put mine on with the back splash bars painted to match the body...and it looks sharp! | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 204 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2004 Posts: 204 | Thanks for the opinions! I have decided I am going to paint the back of the bar to match the truck and chrome the front. I am not about to make my truck look cheesy. | | |
