Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 31 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 31 | Got my pickup back on the street after it sitting a couple of years. ON first start some intake valves stuck. Pulled the head and back together. Runs smooth with 21 in Hg vacuum at idle. Two questions-
Plan to retorque head bolts. Should this be done with the engine cold or at temp?
I've worked with 216's since I was a kid (First car was a '38 business coupe, followed by a '49 convertable, then later a '61 station wagon) All had their heads off for valve jobs etc. With this background I can't decide whether enough oil is getting up to the valve area. Seems to me the oil drainback was awash with oil and the rockers were wet from the top holes. Here the oil is barely wetting the centers of the rockers. Give me an idea of what I should see. Can disconnect the line from the pushrod area- what should the flow be like?
Thanks, Bill

If you are getting oil dribbling out around each rocker arm, you are OK. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 | Should be a good flow. I'll swag that it should fill a qt jar in a minute or so.
Little used 216's can take awhile to fill the rocker shafts but once full you should see the rockers weeping out their weep holes and a good steady flow out the center section connector back towards the crankcase.
