I'm getting ready to put carpet in the old truck. How do most people trim out the hole for the master cylinder?

I think you just carpet or the floor mat right over the top of it. You shouldn't have to get into that many times. However, you will get in and out of your truck a lot. I'm not sure that I wouldn't really want to look at a big black rubber plug in the middle of my carpeted floorboard. Just something to think about. Maybe somebody else will have a different piece of advice, that you like better.

People just lift up the mat/carpet over that area to gain access to the MC and battery. Then lay it back down. Jeffrey

I am not sure how I feel about it but my 54 3100 had carpet when bought it. It looks okay. The previous owner cut the opening for the master cylinder. Carpet on the floor, exposed grommet, no carpet on top of the grommet.
