The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop How much paint for a Panel??

I've got a '46 1/2 ton Panel that is almost ready for paint. The problem is I don't know how much to get. I've got the door jams and fire wall painted already. The formed panels on the sides and rear doors will be another color, thats only about 1 quart. Whats left is the body, doors,hood(inside and out), fenders and inner fenders. I'll be using single stage urethane paint and want three coats over all. I've been told 1 gal will do it, but the more I look at the truck the more I don't think thats right. I want to get all the paint at once to prevent it from not matching because the body, doors will be one day and the fenders and stuff will be another.
Can somebody help me out with this??

I recently repainted my 1 ton panel. I was topcoating older paint and it took almost 3 quarts for the fenders and the longer than 1/2 ton running boards. The body, which is longer than yours, took about 2.5 gal of a single stage urethane and I really need another coat on the roof. This was just a backyard paint job so you might bear that in mind and the 1 ton IS alot bigger than the 1/2.

I would say that if you are doing the whole inside you would be safe with 3 gallons. It would be better to have more than enough though as you can always throw an extra coat on without hurting the pocket book. A friend just painted a 65 impala and used omni brand paint at $80 gal. canadian funds. He used white and it turned out real nice
