Has anybody relocated the gas tank to the rear of a 47-54 Carryall Suburban?
What tank to use?

Where at the rear?

Where the spare tire would have been mounted?

Yes, the spare tire location. Fill cap will be on LR fender behind the tire. We have a tank from an S10 but looking for a better option. In order to get this one high enough that it don't look junky from the rear we will have to notch the crossmember for the fill neck. So...looking for a better idea.

I used a tank from a 67-69 Camaro. I made a slight modification to the rear most brace. I have a build with pics on the 47-72 chevy truck forum. Gas tank install

Thanks everyone, I think we have a plan now. My uncle (his truck), was trying to find a cheap way out but as it turns out, the Autometer speedo and gauges he got came with a sending unit that doesn't fit a regular GM tank. It's only a sending unit without a pickup tube. So I talked him into parting with some cash and we ordered a universal tank from Tanks Inc that has a pickup tube and a small hole for the sending unit. It looks like it will fit the situation without major modification.
