I have a 55 Belair with Rochester single barrel. My mechanic and I just installed a 235 engine from a 58 truck, my old engine was non rebuildable. Everything we are using is from my 55 except block and head. He said the linkage is too long and unable to connect to carburetor. The engine is the same size, can this be true? He said I should by linkage rod from a 58. Thanks!

Are you sure the manifold did not get changed? It sounds like a 1959 or later manifold was installed.

There was some variation in the location of the boss for the bell crank on the throttle linkage in those engines.

On something like that, too long sounds a lot easier to fix than too short. Can't you just cut the linkage? Not sure what part of the linkage is too long. Cut it and bend it, drill a hole in it or thread it, whatever it wants.

This makes little sense.
Although the front pivot position was dropped in 1960 there should be nothing different between your 1955 engine and the 1958 you installed.

It's the rod from bell crank to carb, about 3" off. Maybe something wasn't put on right. Thanks everyone.

The 58 truck engine may have had a governor which has a longer linkage.
