My '53 3100 pickup is one of those where the mail fuel line exits the bottom of the tank. I need to replace this line (rust) but all of the vendor's diagrams show '53's with a fuel line that exits the top of the tank at the sender like the 54's and later models. Short of getting a universal kit and using my tube bender (which usually doesn't end up very pretty) what solution do you have, or what vendor has the correct line for a bottom fed '53 like mine? Thanks in advance! PS: I've been lurking here a while....great forum....very civil, too! | | | | | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 3,689 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 3,689 | You need a short section of flex coming out of the bottom of the tank. Original setup had a little shutoff valve at the tank. Jim Carter sells it. He also sells the little flex line, but I ended up making my own out of fuel line and barbed flare fittings so I could add a filter. I think I still have the pre-made flex hose if you're interested.
I bought the prebent line for the tank to pump but ended up scrapping it because of poor fit. Then got some pre-flared line with fittings on both ends and the bends were easy.
I spent way too much time and money fiddling with the fuel lines on my truck. Feel free to PM me as there is much that can be learned from my mistakes.

This is available from several vendors. This is also a good place for a replaceable in line filter like a Fram G2 in place of the hose. For hard line you local parts store has various lengths of pre-cut, flared lines. All you do is bend them to your application.

I've heard that some of the newer valves (and tanks) don't have the original thread. Did your new valve threads match your original tank?
