the vent window needs to come out first. The window will need to be lowered to do this.Once the vent window assembly is out,the window will need to be raised.Be gentle, and don't force anything.

Zoegrant, here is some great advice and photos given to me a year ago by Brad Allen when I had to fix the door closure mechanism. I got it all out by myself, but needed an extra set of hands putting things back together!

Pictures here should help:

Remember if you take the drip rail out to put it back in before installing the window assembly.

I did this last night. I replaced both door windows. The only thing not covered here is how difficult it is to actually get the new window back into the track with the window filler gasket. I had the correct gasket material but it was very difficult to get the channel pressed on the bottom of the glass. I ended up using a wood clamp to press the channel on. I used a wood block on the top of the window to protect the edge of the glass. This is a very risky operation and you can break the glass if you over tighten the clamp. I applied pressure with the clamp and then tapped along the edge of the channel to "encourage" it to slide further on. I then tightened the clamp some more and tapped some more. It slowly moved its way onto the glass. The other steps were fairly easy to follow.

I used a heavy duty electric cable wrap tape on the glass to shim the glass to the channel and tapped the channel on the glass with a piece of pine, no hammer. I lubed the whole mechanism, with spray lithium. The glass goes up and down, like warm butter, smooth with no drag.
