I have these manifolds on my 1958 Viking 60. Has anyone seen these before or know anything about them? The original 6 cyl was replaced with a 327 at some point. It has exhaust stacks coming out of the top of the front fenders. I originally figured they had just swapped the exhaust manifolds to the opposite sides to run the exhaust out the inner fenders but the manifolds have an outlet on the top and bottom! Sorry I don't have any better pics, I am going to end up taking at least the driver side off at some point to replace the exhaust gaskets but have not gotten around to doing that.

Looks like someone let their imagination run away with themselves. I doubt that you will ever get the leaks fixed on this contraption. I would put stock exhaust on it and get rid of this junk.

I had heard that the dealers would split the manifolds to make dual exhausts for more power from some of the old timers around. Can't tell in pics if that is what it is. They tell me they where brazed and homemade looking. But sound good.

Why would they chose to use the top port??? Why not just install a set of stock manifolds? Those would probably work great on a ratrod? Or a tractor? I've never seen them before - they were never used on a passenger car or truck. Industrial goodies.

Perhaps they were manifolds on an industrial engine like an irrigation pump. Might be made by the company that assembled the power units and not a GM manifold option.

Grigg, that makes the most sense, I have not taken one off yet but, I see flashing from the casting around the top port so, I don't think this was something that was welded on, but rather actually cast that way. I am real curious now to get one off and see if there are any casting numbers or other markings on it!

This was a grain truck, they wanted to keep the exhaust up above everything so it wold not catch the fields on fire, I think they succeeded in that!

I seem to remember some of the farm equipment manufacturers using Chevy V8's in combines and other big pieces of equipment. I'll bet some enterprising farmer scavenged the engine out of a junk combine for his truck!

I did that very thing for a flathead 6 for my 50 DeSoto in Ronan Montana probably 20 years ago! Got one out of a combine that was sitting in a field! Had to change the front plate for motor mounts, but it gave me an extra 30 cubic inches, same bore so, all from stroke!

Interesting, have you determined the intended application yet?

Was the top fitting designed as a heat riser?

The top is an exhaust port, not a heat riser. I looks like it was designed to run the exhaust out the top exactly as has been done on my truck. There are a number of industrial applications where you may want exhaust exiting up, farm equipment being one of them.

The more I think about it, the more ideas I have. Those would make great turbo manifolds, although that's not what they were designed for.

I better not mention turbo manifolds to my son in law, he will be all over me to do a twin turbo setup on this or something!
