I recently bought a 1964 Stepside. I was curious about four holes in the rear sill below the tailgate. I've seen pics of other trucks with the same holes and nothing mounted there. Would they be for the original license plate light and bracket? I'm pretty sure this truck left the factory without a rear bumper.

This is the 'deluxe' bracket when you have a rear bumper

This is the standard when you do not have a bumper.

Thanks Modelman. I hadn't seen the standard bracket before. I guess it's not related to those holes. Was there a rubber bumper or something to keep the tailgate from hitting when you lower it all the way?

nope, the tailgate was designed to hang flat down if no bumper was used.
