Thank you "Martin Senour" for all your words of wisdom regarding paint and bodywork. I have followed your advice and applied your knowledge from this forum and others such as autobodypro.com and autobodystore.com. I am not a novice but there is so much more to learn from the "masters".

I don't know about a "master" part. That is a very funny on going joke where I work. You see, I have completed all the tests required to be an "ASE Master Technician" in autobody and refinishing. So I was rubbing it in to the guys who have not been able to pass the tests and right after I received the news I had passed the last one and I had been doing the victory dance, I screwed up a car big time. Made a stupid mistake and it cost the shop about $500.00 to repair it. :o

So I really had to eat my words I'll tell you that. So the joke goes, everyone calls me "Master". LOL

Thanks very much for the kind words. To tell you the truth, is isn't so much "knowing" this stuff. It is being open to learn it. I have learned how valuable it is to take the time to learn it, formally study it. And if I can pass some on to you guys I will so you can jump ahead in the learning curve like I did learning it.

Thanks to all and I will have some new stuff coming. I had taken a little break trying to sell my book on the subject to some publishers. It seems no one wants it. They name drop on me some big boys that are putting books together with them. I don't get it, the beginer isn't impressed by the names and the big names don't write anything that would help the beginer. So, I will get back to doing the book myself.

I am all for writing to the publisher you are or will be trying to work with and telling them I want a book on body and paint by someone who has done it for a long time but also has the understanding that there are people like myself who will benefit from a guy who explains it in ways that make it easy for beginners to relate to.
You have helped us here on the Stovebolt with more info than we could have ever hope to learn ourselves in a short ammount of time. I am not saying I am good by any means, I am saying I have a lot of good information from you I will get to practice with

Publish it yourself. For a minimal investment you can have copies printed up. You can do all the work on the computer. Then sell through a website and word of mouth on forums like this. As soon as you register it you get an ISBN number which allows you to take orders from places like Amazon.com

That way when technology changes you can keep it up to date. With time you will sell enough copies and might even convince a publisher for a major release.

MARTINSR: I to am deeply grateful for all your help. I have a file in my cabinet of all your postings of the last year. The finish product I problay won't do myself but everything up to I will because of your knowledge. Thats the very essence way I belong to this fabalous page. besides BSing a litttle bit. popcorn The Truth is Out There (Hope you get the book moving maybe one day we can send our copies to you for autographs)

Guys, I'll tell you what, it is posts like yours that have driven me to write up my "Basics of Basics". I really do love hearing about guys who have been able to go out to their garage and actually do this stuff. It has given me an enormous amount of enjoyment over the years. If I can pass some of that on, believe me the pleasures all mine.
I have a old friend that just published a book I will have to get a hold of him for some pointers.

You register the book which also gives you a copyright. I believe it is at the library of Congress or something. There are places that will handle it. You then get an ISBN number which makes your book go into the main database used by most of the world. Then if someone searches for a book on autobody work, your book will show up. They can then order it through places like Amazon.com or even have any bookstore order it.

There was a lot more with a google search on ISBN numbers. Also, look at the back of any book you have, there is a barcode and ISBN number.

MARTINSR I have yet to paint my truck. That is years away. However I used to sell automotive paint (DuPont). You have the ability to convey a sometimes very complicated process in terms that most if not all of us can understand. Please let us know when your book goes to print. I will be just one of many in line to purchase it!
