I have run across an old junk 3/4 ton GMC with.....of all things, what appears to be a later model full pressure oiled Chevrolet engine. Hmmmmmm, I wonder what they were thinking? :-) My question, how can I tell, quickly, if the engine is a 235 or a 261.

To be sure, you really need the Block casting code.

The engine serial number pressed into the block at the rear of the distributor might tell you/us what you have.

Here are locations of ID codes on the engine:

Just a note: If the tech tips on this subject here on Stovebolt.com aren't helpful, it would be good to know so we can update them.

Thanks.
