My son has this truck and it needs a complete exhaust system. It's a 1965 K10 shortbed with a 292. We've looked in all the catalogs and the only thing we can find is stuff for dual pipes. We just want an original/basic exhaust.

He believes that he can order the system for a later model 1967+ model that uses the 292. Apparently those are readily available through LMC. I can weld hangers and such on if need be.

Where we live there are no "local shops on the corner" that make exhaust systems anymore. All we have is Monroe/Midas which some have said to stay away from. Any thoughts appreciated.

If there is a John Deere dealer close to you , they should be able to get the exhaust manifold and head pipe, they were used on 4400 combines, then you can get the remainder of the pipes to complete the system. Pat.

There's a reasonably-priced brand new cast iron exhaust manifold that gets advertised on Ebay regularly, intended for 230/250/292 industrial engines, that has the late model 3-bolt flange. I'm not sure if it's for the big truck exhaust pipe or the smaller one designed for pickups, but the 3-bolt flange was generally used with the big pipe.

Search "292 Chevy exhaust manifold"- - - -it's the first listing. $149.00 with free shipping.

Thanks for the tips. I probably should have mentioned that the manifold is a single outlet and is good. Mainly looking for prebent pipe kits like you can get for earlier and later trucks(Jeeps have good selections too.) Plenty of dual kits but the truck isn't going to be a show piece, just don't want to be choking on fumes.

I did check around some sites for JD combine stuff. Interesting. Although here in Conn. you would be hard pressed to find a JD dealer who knows anything more than garden equipment!

Rusty64, been a while. Mo2cycl(Kevin) snapped some pictures for me from Tom's place several years ago when he was there. Wish I was back in MO.

Other than fumes, anyone ever fab up electrical conduit to scrape by?

Some tire dealers also install exhaust systems, maybe you could look around and see if you can find one too do the bending and get what you need. Pat

have not used conduit, My dad stole my mom's chrome vacuum tubes off her tank vacuum years ago and used them for exhaust pipe on a project! LOL... He might have gotten in trouble for that one!

I would be concerned with fumes off the header pipe where it comes out of the manifold if using conduit. It may not be any big deal, but pulling a good size hill, it may get hot enough to stink! You may be able to get exhaust pipe lengths from your local Napa or other parts store.

I have a complete set up for a 292. It has Cherry Bomb muffler on it. I sold my 292 and have some parts left.
Let me know if interested.

Thanks Born Lucky, used to live in Wentzville a few years back. My son ended up ordering a newer system and we will retrofit it.

Just a FYI for those who may be looking for a new do it yourself exhaust. We looked around but nobody in the area custom bends and the catalogs don't support single exhaust systems for our year.

We took a chance and ordered an exhaust pipe system that is meant for the next generation truck(ours is a '65 shortbed 4x4.) It actually fit pretty well and had all the right bends in the right places. The only modification needed was cutting 6" off the end of the tail pipe and adding it to the other end to line up the hump over the axle. The whole system cost about $200 shipped to the door.
