Do you use the dry Swiffer-wand things?
I know how to wash the tuck, dry it, cover it, et cetera; I'm more talking about the dust that just settles on it. I'm not planning on showing my truck anytime soon, but I needed something to safely get the dust off (when I want it off & don't need to wash it). The air compressor works good for this sometimes.
Thanks & I hope the question makes sense. Brad Wrench Fetcher, PhD | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 252 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 252 | I have the same question. My truck collects a considerable amount of dust from just sitting between trips and I would like to remove it without scratching the paint. I don't really want to wash it. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks as always. | | | | Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 924 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 924 | Cool, Thanks Mike- that CA Duster looks like the ticket. Or, at least it is made for cars unlike the Swiffer in our cleaning cabinet.
I knew something had to be out there. Honestly, I've never looked, and I'm just starting to realize this truck will need more dusting than washing.

I've used the California Duster for many years. I don't understand the principal of the dirtier it gets the better it works but it is true. You will also see a lot of the guys at the shows using a spray product that is made to be misted on small areas at a time and polished off immediately with micro fiber towels. My son (Terry B.) does the spray stuff but he has a $10,000 paint job on his '53. I just dust and go.

I also use mist and wipe from mcquires (miss spelled) for anything a little heavier then dust..less then 5 bucks a bottle, they have spray and wax stuff too...the big calif duster is more then 10 yrs old, and does a great job. The auto parts houses have a version that works just as well. I follow dusting with a product like Meguiar’s spray Quick Detailer and damp micro-fiber towels to remove bugs etc. I follow this with the occasional premium carnauba paste wax. For my truck, washing with a hose and suds is an absolute last resort except for the tires and wheels. http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b542/RdLessTaken/IMG_85261_zps90bf2b98.jpg | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Your welcome! I've used one for many years and the dirtier they get the better they work. Mike B Right on Brother. My California duster is at least 10 years old. Folks laugh when I pull it out at a car show, shake it off and then wipe the dust off. When my vehicles were "newer restorations" I occasionally went over it with the Mequiars Quik Detailng bottle. ...as the years have gone by I am getting lazy or just don't care anymore about adding another trophy to the shelves. I hate dusting them about as bad as I hate dusting the truck and panel. A LOT of times now I do not even enter the show unless its money going for a good cause and one that I could support. I just jump in and go. A quick trip down the road gets most dust and if its fairly bad I just run it through the "rinse" wash and then dry it off going down the highway. They get a good wash, and wax/polish ONCE a year. I find that an underlying accumulation of dust aids in the removal of the droppings of most bird species. Carl

The dark blue truck I get dusty shows the dust big time. I picked up the plastic handled CA duster & using it is a good task for my 4.5 yr old son (who wants to wash his truck all the time). The duster works great. I think it was $12 or so.
