I bought a poor condition 62 for the wrap around windshield and rear quarters. The 62 is a Custom cab with good mouldings on the B pillars. Also found a very good set of the same "Custom" mouldings in the floor board of the 62 when I got it home.
Since the "Custom" mouldings look cool, Would it be heresy or poor taste to put them on my 63 & 64 in the future, or should I recoup some cash and sell both sets? | | | | Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 1,229 Red dot, center of chest ... | Red dot, center of chest ... If other people don't like them, that's their problem. | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 5,139 Authorized Pest | Authorized Pest Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 5,139 | Yea golly for sure. Do what you like. Of the 3,000 Gallery stories I have done for this site, there has been quite the stretch ("That is a truck" to "Totally original? No way?!). I think the most amazing has been seeing the people who make a crew cab using two trucks. We had an old Army 5-ton dump truck (just went to a new home today) that John "personalized" reflecting USMC-pride) including an Eagle Glob and Anchor hood ornament. So, if you like the mouldings, use them. It's one of those things that can come off, too, if you change your mind later. Peg

One of the first things I did was ad the custom cab sail mouldings to my '65. I even added fleet side trim.... to my step side | | | | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 1,181 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 1,181 | I have a mix of custom parts and deluxe parts on my. '60.

The 62 trim pieces will be recognized as such on your 63-64. Otherwise the Custom options were slight and not many folks will be able to tell whether they were original to the truck or not. I like the trim. Good luck with your truck(s). My new '65 that I acquired in April 2015 doesn't have the trim, but I have the trim pieces from my old '65 camper special that came with factory air, and I also have some auxillary springs and a rear sway bar from the parts truck that I am going to swap in, as well as the air conditioning parts from the old camper special. And since I am doing so many things to upgrade the new truck with parts from other trucks and parts bought from suppliers, I am going to be adding the custom trim to my cab, because in essence, it is a custom truck. You Can Do It!!!

What is in poor taste would be adding trim or trinkets from another brand of vehicle, but even then - it is your truck and your vision. Whatever makes you happy. | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 95 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 95 | Well, not poor taste exactly, but incorrect. The informed admirer will notice the lack of other goodies normally present on a truck wearing "Custom" sail trim. That trim was part of "Custom Appearance Option" consisting of bright windshield trim, aluminum grill, fancier steering wheel including chrome horn ring, chrome trimmed dash knobs, and two tone interior paint. All that other bling can be added nearly as easily if you want it to look legit. Without it, the trim kinda looks slapped on, if you know what I mean. | | | | Neverdone Unregistered | Neverdone Unregistered | Chrome won’t get you home farmboy .
If this is your first truck it is easy to get caught up in appearance and forget about the mechanical, get it mechanically right first and you can add chrome later as your tastes and pocketbook allows. There is nothing worse than having to do major wrenching on a truck that is all painted and costumed up .
The only chrome on my 66 are the door handles and wiper arms and that is onyl because I could not figure out how to get them to hold paint..lol
Good luck with our build
