I met a guy during RV trips to No. N.M. Have met during Aug for the last 4 years at the same campground. I learned he owned this old fuel hauler.
He drug it out of the weeds in SW Texas, after his wife bought it for him for Christmas 1988. It had been setting there since 1974, when the original owner died. Jack remembers seeing the truck on the road hauling fuel. He had always loved it.
We agreed to sell and a price. He is 84 and finally realized he was never going to complete it. The homemade fuel tank(1939) has been blasted and painted. The cab and chassis was next on his list. Engine has been replaced with a 235. It purrs like a kitten. Cab has NO rust other than surface rust. No holes. I hauled it home 835 miles. Jack cried when we left with it.
Brakes needed bleeding and battery replaced, I plan to drive it in hometown Christmas parade. Friends tell me to plan for "Cursing the Coast" 2016.
Undecided what I wand to do as restoration. Rear fenders are made from 55 gal barrels.Fifth wheel is homemade. Almost be a shame to remove them. Feel like I would be destroying a piece of History. /IMG_0485_zpsvxk5gwce.jpg

how sweet it is. A piece of history for sure. I like it just the way it is. I feel you will do it justice and do it right. Thank you for sharing the pics.

Very nice. I agree with Alvin, it looks great as she is. It would be neat if you shot a video of it in your Christmas parade and sent it to the previous owner.

Thanks for the pics.

John

What a honey of a truck! It'd almost be a shame to restore it at all. But if you do, I'd leave the homemade fenders and fifth wheel exactly as it is. Like you said, it's a piece of history.

And welcome to the Bolt!

Great find and great looking truck!
I too like it, just the way it is.
Keep it road worthy and enjoy it.

Good Idea about the video. I may do just that.
Have decided that if I ever do paint it, I will leave all the homemade stuff intact. That's the way they did things back in the 30's.
Originally it had the original owners name and hometown painted on the tank. Have a picture of it. Thinking of putting it back.

Beautiful truck, I understand why he cried when it left. There isn't much paint left on that truck, I think it has earned a new shiny red paint job!
