Been working on it for about 3 yrs..

Nice. Many of us in VA/MD area and we would like to see that truck in action.
Are those 16in wheels? What size tires and where are they found? Researching my next set of tires.

yes they are 16". The wheels came off my 48 fleetline they are very narrow, The tires are LT 235-16-85-LRE 10Ply, I found them on E-bay for 500.00 free shipping that's about 125.00 a tire,I originally wanted some Bias ply mud tires with big lugs but they were 150.00 a tire plus shipping was waaaaaaaaay too much.. I like the looks of these...My truck has later front Diff's with disk brakes I had to grind alittle on inside of wheel and some on the backside of caliper which doesn't affect anything...I wanted the old style look...

Nice solid looking truck. I just bought a 64 C10 for parts off of the 292. I am putting a remanufactured 292 in a 53 Chevy wagon, Camaro T5, 10 bolt S10 rear, Fatman suspension, etc.

I have some cab trim from the 64 along with the stainless windshield trim if you would be interested.

I also have a similar truck project to yours. 1959 Chevy Apache Fleetside Deluxe cab short box. Mounted on a mid 80's Chevy truck frame 4x4.

Have fun with your project. These 292's are becoming rare.

Ken, the reference above to Tiny is because of the mention of selling parts on this thread. Please take the mentions of parts to the parts for sale section or to a PM.

Fleet,
Nice! Was looking at the picts and noticed a couple of the steering shaft and column. Why the cut and add? Extension for body lift or something. Could you please explain?
I want to see a vid of the new I6 running!

Cavebull.

Cavebull the steering column was slid closer to the seat because the shaft was too long with that 70 frame and power steering, leaving less gut room, plus it was putting pressure on the rag joint so I cut prolly 2" of the shaft and welded back but used a sleeve and bolted it up in cause the weld broke, I would like to find the early 70's collapsible shaft...I was able to slide the column closer to the dash about 2" when doing this...

Cool, I am putting a 2 1/2" body lift on my 63" and anticipate a possible steering shaft issue... so that caught my eye. But, yeah, raising the body does the steering wheel wind up in your lap, or do you rub your knuckles on the dash while holding onto the the wheel? Not to mention as you said possible tension on the rag joint.
Thanks,
Cavebull

You know I'm not sure about that with the body lift,I know a lot of people go that route.
