Got the end pieces riveted to my grille, then painted it. Since I couldn't handle the grille for awhile, I took the tub of No.7 polishing compound and knocked off some oxidation from the front end. It started raining so I couldn't finish the hood. But it looks way better. Can't wait to see how it buffs out with wax. Ran into a minor snag when installing the headlight relays. Glad I did, it made me finish getting my good grille done. With the paint polished, the freshly painted grille, and the new chrome bumper, the truck will look way more sexy. And the brighter headlights will be nice too.

I realized the bell housing has to go on before the flywheel so had to take out the tranny and driveshaft from the frame again.

Yes it does on a 235.

I unboxed my 55.2 3100 truck bed platform metal & hardware from Mar-K; it got here a lot quicker than anticipated, so I laid the strips out on the truck frame and played pretend...I still have to put the front bed panel, sides, & rear cross sill together. Here are some pictures.

I work with stainless steel a lot and decided to go with their "unpolished" SS bed strips for my truck. I believe this might be the shiniest "unpolished" stainless steel I have ever seen. Fine by me-- It'll look sharp, be functional, and I won't have to worry about scratching it (as opposed to going with polished/chrome/'be careful with it' parts).

My truck bed parts will be done curing in a few days. I picked up the upper & lower grill pieces that had to be re-painted from the fire a few months ago & hope to install the grill tonight!

Looks like tornado chances are pretty high tonight, but before all that goes down we got a chance to install the replica/replacement glove box liner.

I'll wait for some adult help to re-tackle the grill installation.

I installed the passenger door panel, the inside door handle, and the scuff plate. Pictures . Curiously, I found three of those 'I'll get to that later' broke-off screws in the door. I broke a Hanson screw extractor #2 on its first use, so I hope those are warrantied.

On the Good Humor Truck I had the fabrication shop design around the Kleenex hand towel dispenser box. A metal box with a hinge lid. Very clean, easy excess. Better then using a roll of paper towels. Its mounted with threaded insert rivets.

I went to pick up my tailgate, front bed panel, cross sills, & fender steps. Pictures. I also picked up the rear cross sill & spare tire carrier I caught on fire this summer. Hopefully I can install the bed (minus the wood) the next week or so.

And I decided to leave the tailgate "Chevrolet" lettering body color as opposed to painting it white. Easier to change my mind on preference that way, and I've heard the factory didn't paint the letters white...(-edit- I know they also didn't coat it with bed liner, but that just made sense to me)

I went into the garage to assess the o/a damage to my truck following it's little off road adventure on Christmas eve.

So far I need to replace....

front right fender.
upper (large) brace.
Headlight rim.
Bumper mount.
Bumper.(The one on it's only a few months old)
Grill. (Ideally, but it should be repairable).
Steering wheel. aka Pretzel!

There is also a very slight ripple in the RH cowl below the heater intake.
A split has also appeared on the drivers side fender lip.
The right rear fender took a hit to but that's a relatively easy repair.

Still to do:
Drop some lines from the chassis and measure the diagonals to establish if the chassis has been tweaked. (I sure hope not!)
Check condition of RH front suspension and steering as the camber has increased dramatically,i'm hoping it's just the upper arm has slipped.

Check and repair a slight ding on the rim of the wheel, also check it for runout and replace the tyre.

Fabricated a finger strainer yesterday from stainless steel screen material, inserted into the inlet of my fuel tank shut-off valve and reinstalled into the bottom of my fuel tank. This should eliminate the nuisance line plugging. Also, finally located a service station with "real" gasoline nearby. I plan to refill my tank with fuel from there vs. with corn syrup.

Replaced the shock absorbers on my 59 Apache. They were the originals and had never been changed. I used Gabriel 82047s on the front and Gabriel 82060s on the rear. They came with new hardware. Kroil penetrating oil loosened up the 56-year old bolts pretty well. Quick and easy installation.

What a significant improvement in the ride and handling! I should have done this two years ago when I first got the truck.

Just took my '65 c20 for a drive to let the puppy girls run and enjoy a ride in the truck. Stopped for some beverages on the way home and can't shift into reverse now. The overdrive lockout cable is a hair out of adjustment. Would have crawled underneath to slide the lockout lever the rest of the way into lockout, but there was a major influx of street people going to the store while I tried every which way to get it to work. Had to resort to the Flinstones style of reverse to leave the store and keep the hyper young ones from trying to bail out of the cab while doing so. Since the sun is almost down and I have one more stop, I will adjust the cable tomorrow when things are cool to the touch.

It could also be the solenoid terminal is grounding out due to the fiber insulator wearing out. It happened to me. I didn't figure it out until after I had forced it into reverse and tore up some expensive parts.

It was just the cable. The clip isn't clamping down enough to hold the cable in one spot, so it is sliding in the clip. It was all messed up under there. I need to re-route the cable and add something to aid in the clamping pressure of the clip so the cable stays put. I will keep the solenoid in mind, though, in case something happens in the future that isn't cable-related.

I got the front & side bed panels installed Thursday; today I checked the bed wood board width with the cut-offs bolted to a cross sill. Pictures.

I'm still polishing all my stainless bed hardware. Pictures of my progress.

Cletis;

I'm interested in your solenoid adventure. If the solenoid is grounding out does that keep it stuck in the "On" position? That would prevent the overdrive from disengaging (going into dirrect drive). If you disconnect power to it will that solve the issue?

Also when you say "won't go into reverse" what exactly does that mean. If you push the shift lever up towards reverse does it refuse to go? Or can you put it in the reverse position but then the truck just doesn't move?

I'm trying to think through my trouble shooting/reaction protocol if for some reason I all of a sudden reverse doesn't work.

Thanks

Yes, killing power should release the solenoid. And there is a mechanical stop that keeps it from going into reverse. As I found out it can be defeated with force by breaking something. Had I stopped to think I would have realized it was locked out but I forced it as if it were a linkage problem.

I finished sewing up a dust cover for the hood & cab of my truck. It is six $2 fleece blankets. It was the cheapest & most flammable option I could find, but it sure is soft. grin

In my continued emulation of Martha Stewart, I made a leather visor cover to cover up my mistakes on the first visor cover attempt. It is a good document storage spot & looks normal.
