Welcome to the 'bolt. Try this for posting pics. If you're still having issues with your links let me know. We've been having some issues with the forum code since the last software upgrade.

very common. This was done mostly in an attempt to increase oil flow to the rockers, (actually reduce the amount of oil being dumped out of the tube.)and won't hurt anything. These engines used an entirely different method and science of lubrication than you are used too. Even at work we have new centrifuges that use .06 cc's of oil every 2 1/2 minutes to lubricate an six inch or so roller bearing on a bowl that weighs 8700 lbs, and turns 2800 RPM. Lubrication is a weird thing....

Got it, thanks brokenhead, and thanks for the heads-up about posting pictures Tiny. Will keep that in mind for future threads.

235s started in '41 and connector types changed thru the yrs. That connector between shafts on many, not all years, has a 1/2 round loop rising above the shafts about 1.5 ". If yours has that riser loop, this post applies. The oil has to fill the shafts before the oil can reach the overflow end of that loop. The shafts and rockers are not supposed to get full line pressure. This "head/standpipe pressure" design of controlled lubrication meters the oil amount running off the rockers onto the valve tips. Often mechanics would pinch off that overflow as a band aid approach instead of removing and thoroughly cleaning the rocker asmys. Typically the increased flow overloaded the valve guides and the car would smoke after idling, especially. David

The riser loops that David refers to (rocker arm shafts oil-connector) was used on 1937-1963 216/235/261 stovebolt engines. There were different designs, but all had a "loop". Some of the loops were open at one end and some were not. Some, if not many, of the ones that came open from the factory eventually got pinched by someone, in order to (in an attempt to) increase flow of oil to the rocker arms.
