Jul 21st, 2025 | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 13 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 13 | I have completely rewired my 63 C10 and put on an aftermarket (speedway motors) turn signal switch. Everything was working properly until this weekend when the brake lights stopped working.
I have power going in and coming out of the brake light switch. I have power going into the turn signal switch on the proper line. EVERYTHING else works (turn signals, flashers, tail lights). The stop light fuse is good as well.
The only work I did recently was replacing the cowl vent seal. I know that is close to the wiring, but surely that could not cause any issue like this.
I am running out of things to check so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Found the problem as a bad connection at the wiring connector on the firewall. Unplug and re-plug a couple times to get it to work. I'll do a better job during restoration.
Don't know if the '63 is the same...?

It was always the plug connection at the firewall with the plug that the tail lights go to. They can come loose while working, or if it's not snug, the brake lights won't come on. To check mine by myself I wedged a stick against the brake pedal and the seat to depress the brakes. I don't think it would be the bulbs because it's unlikely, although not impossible, for both to go out at the same time. If it's not the plug then check the brake pedal to make sure it is engaging the brake light switch when depressed. If you did any work under there while wiring you might have knocked the connection loose. Hope this helps.
