The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop speaker grille color

On my '51 chevy 3100 5 window, I'm working on the dash finish. PO had painted entire dash black. I have cleaned up upper & lower SS speaker grille bars and buffed, also the SS glovebox cleaned and buffed up nicely. The speaker grille seemed to be all painted surfaces. Would/should the high and low bars be painted contrasting colors on the grille ? Would the paint continue onto the bars of the glovebox in line with the speaker grille? It would seem that it would, but don't know for sure. Zeke

This is a frequent topic, some people like the totally stainless glove box, but I believe the center section of it was originally painted as was the speaker grille area. The valley sections of the grille bars were cab color, the raised sections, now that is usually debated, I see Jim Carter says silver for those, and I believe he got his information from Mike Carvey, who used to have an award-winning fully restored 51, and Mike tells me he used Argent silver. But I researched this (hunting out original grilles) and firmly believe cream medium was the correct color for the raised sections. I wonder if it varied with the color of the truck, as did the pinstriping color. That is my opinion, others may give different opionions.
