| | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 17 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 17 | At a swap meet last week I bought a set of corner windows for my delux 50, But they were a lite greenish tint to them I try to scrap a small area to see if it was something somebody sprayed.But looking at it it is in thew middle of the glass. Did they have factory tinted window in 1950 or I did I get lucky and find something rare like chicken teeth ? or did I get hosed ?
Any help fellow truckers.

According to the book Catalog of Chevy Truck ID Numbers 1946-1972, the first year for the tinted glass option was 1953. It was listed as E-Z Eye glass. It has a green tint to it. I have read in a couple of other places that 53 was the first year for that option. I have a 53, so in some of my other research I have run accross this info. However, it could be that the info I have read is not 100% correct. It seems that there were other exceptions back in the 50s.

What book are you looking at? I would like to look at that book. I am have been tempted to put it in my 53. However, I want to make sure it was an option. Since my first post on this subject, I have doubled checked my other sources. According the book, CHEVROLET PICKUPS 1946-1972

Chevrolet collector light trucks, panels and El Caminos
A new option introduced for all trucks in 1953 was tinted glass for the windshield, side windows, back window and even the rear corner windows.
This is written exatly as it is in the book, by John Gunnell.
Not that this info helps a 1950 restoration. But we should be as accurate as we can.

I have seen clear corner glass for $50-$80 dollars per set never nos, but nice stuff. Grills for 47-53 seem to be sell for $150-300, for nice ones or the oversea repops for $400.00.I had my stocker rechromed for about 475.00 for the bars,but how sweet it is.

IT'S NOT A BOOK THAT I'M LOOKING AT. IT'S COMING FROM MY GOOD FRIEND THAT WORKED IN THE TRUCK PLANT
FROM 1945 TO 1963. HE SAID THEY MIGHT HAVE PRINTED
IT, AS A OPTION FOR 1953. BUT THE TINTED GLASS WAS NOT IN THE FACTORY TILL AFTER THEY HAD STARTED BUILDING THE 1954 MODEL.

The question was posted a while back by 1/2 ton Dave on the subject of when tinted glass was introduced to AD Trucks. I posted a reply that I felt was accurate. I had read in not only one but two publications that Tinted Glass was an option on 53 Chevrolet Trucks. TRUCKMAN apparently begged to differ. He said that he was told by someone that worked at "one" of the factories that AD trucks were built in that even though the books said it is an option, it was not. Being someone that wants to know the real facts, I consulted the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. Who else would be a better source? The relplies that I received from one member, states that he has seen several 53s with factory green tinted glass. Another member remembers driving a 53 in the 50s with the factory tinted glass. Now it appears that most of the vehicles that the members remember seeing are all down south. Probably due to the sunnier climate. That leads me to beleive that perhaps not all of the factories installed tinted glass as an option. However, it was definately available.
Sorry to have dug this post up. But I like to be as acurate as possible when relying to a fellow bolters questions. I know all of you take the same pride in your answers. I have seen this first hand over the last couple years. I truly appreciate all of the help I have received from everybody.
I hope this helps someone in their restoration.
