Looking on line, I'm thinking of using an electric power steering pump for my hydroboost.
The truck does not have power steering.
Any thoughts on this type of set up?

Fit a huge alternator- - - -the current demand is going to be considerable. I'd also question the wisdom of betting your life on the output of an electric motor.

Here's a thought. I know in the fiftys Chevy made a generator with a power steering pump mounted on the back. A friend has a 1955 car with this setup on a 235 six. If you have the updraft manifold setup it may not fit? I know Chrysler made a similar setup also. Good luck!

I'm 'll be in a similar situation using a Hydrobooster and not having power steering gear box.
My plan is to use the lowest flow Saginaw "Type II" or model "TC" pump and ensure it is the correct pressure for the hydrobooster. http://www.summitracing.com/search/...g-pump-model/gm-type-2-saginaw-tc-series

Trouble is they made so very many versions of those pumps and I have yet to figure out which one is best suited, some are even reverse rotation which might be handy depending on how I mount it.

With the pump I'll use a large remote reservoir. The hydroboosters use "a spoon full" of fluid with each application, otherwise all the fluid that goes in is returned in this case straight to the reservoir. They don't need a lot of flow if you won't be using a PS gear box as well.

I would not use an electric pump because of the cost, complexity, and potential troubles in comparison to a simple, cheap, and proven PS pump system.

Is it possible to use a larger pulley to further reduce the flow? I believe most power steering pumps put out a large volume to keep the feel at the steering wheel consistent when turning it quickly.

Hey bethinks for the responses. Although I had an updraft carb, I now have a webber downdraft as I customized the intake manifold. I like the idea of electric pump as you can mount it anywhere. I like the tri five idea as well but a little tough to find. Im going to the alternator shop tomorrow to see about attaching the pump to the alternator.Stay tuned

If the electric pumps stop working your just back to manual no power assist brakes.you still have 1 or 2 shots of brake application with the reservoir on hydro boost. I might be looking at this with my 3 ton using hydro boost when I go diesel next year. I think it can work just fine with the electrical system to back it up. It will have reduced load too with no power steering demand on it.

I think isuzu trucks have an alternator with a vacuum boost. Wonder if you can remove the vacuum boost from the alternator and attach the ps pump?

That's a good question!

Hydroboost is a good thing when it is a simple system. Perhaps not worth the complication, expense, and risk that an electric pump may bring.

If hydroboost is a must what is wrong with mounting a small belt driven PS pump?

Will the saturn vue component work..2003...to ...2007...there used on smaller trucks??...just a thought
